Bridgers & Paxton has a long, successful history of designing and studying systems for office buildings throughout the United States. On the average, people spend over 30% of their day at their place of work. Consequently, the design of office buildings must provide comfortable environments with good lighting and indoor air quality. The mechanical systems serving office buildings account for 25% to 40% and lighting systems account for another 40% of the total energy use in a typical office building. The efficient design of central equipment, air distribution, and lighting systems play an important role in reducing the overall operating cost of office buildings. However, energy efficiency cannot compromise requirements for safe and healthy environments within the buildings. High rise buildings possess special design concerns which may be critical to the modern computerized office building systems, including the HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical, telephone data systems, and life safety systems serving the building.
