He is responsible for in-house and out-of-house coordination, communication, and information transfer between the MEP project team members and other consultants. He maintains project involvement from the proposal phase through construction administration. His duties include as-builts, mechanical design/engineering, specification editing, heating/cooling load calculation, medical gas system design, steam/condensate system design, control system design including sequence of operation, on-site mechanical distribution, central plant design, shop drawing review, and site observations.

His expertise is in the areas of healthcare related design and engineering. He spends the majority of his time working on healthcare related projects and has completed numerous projects over the past five years at Yuma Regional Medical Center, Banner Desert Medical Center, State of Arizona Civil and Adolescent Behavioral Health Hospital, Yavapai Regional Medical Center, Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, Mesa Lutheran Medical Center, Maricopa Medical Center, Valley Lutheran Medical Center, and Arrowhead Hospital.

Several recent healthcare projects managed by Mr. O'Brien have been delivered successfully via the CM@Risk or design/build project delivery method. These delivery methods have expedited the owner's ability to move into a facility several months prior to the traditional design, bid, build project delivery method permitting revenues to be generated earlier.

In addition to his healthcare experience, he has successfully completed facility designs for educational (primary and university), detention, manufacturing/industrial, and public works clients, which included new construction, renovation, and remodel projects.
